When I comes to traditional mail marketing there are a few things you can do to make a stronger impression. Since you're not there in person and can't talk to your prospect face to face, you need to make sure that your mail comes off as trustworthy and tempting enough to open!
For the trustworthy aspect, people tend to trust businesses that seem less automated because they feel like they are more important. If an actual person is working on getting a customer it means a lot more than if a machine is. Ways that you can give off a personal touch look on your mailers can be placing stamps on the envelopes by hand, making sure they aren't too perfectly straight. You can get a return address stamp instead of stickers or print to show that you hand did each one, or write down your return address and have that turned into a stamp to give it an even more personal touch.
For the tempting aspect for your mailers, it's been shown that people find it hard to resist opening a piece of mail that has something they can feel inside of it. Often referred to as 3D mail or "lumpy" mail, putting something in your mail that people know isn't just paper can have a huge impact on opens. Things like branded magnets, keychains, etc.
